best core for an elecromagnet

I'm a graduate in Physics.I'm on a Project work related to electromagnetism.Can you please suggest me which is the best core that can be used for an electromagnet.

The best econonomically viable core are of course iron core.. Basically almost all materials which are related to iron (Fe )can be used. There are even materials like ferrites that can be used in flexible magnetic cores..
